This is Gonna Be Fang-Tastic

There are things I’m afraid of, but monsters have never been one of them.  When I was a kid, I loved the really, really old black and white monster movies like Dracula, The Wolfman, and Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. Abbott and who? First base!  (I guess you gotta be my age to get that one, but I thought I’d throw it in!). So of course, when my brilliant friend Emmy award winner David P. Levin asked me if I would consider doing an original cartoon show with him, I replied, “Sure. If it can have some monsters.”

And so, together, we created Monsters Aren’t Real???, a cartoon show for today’s kids who, like me, are fascinated by monsters.  Only this time, unlike the old movies, the show is in color, and is animated brilliantly by David with some help from AI programs. Like Frankenstein’s Monster, Monsters Aren’t Real??? is put together from several unique parts.

We use human imagination and talents for ideas, scripts and voiceovers, while letting AI do the animation—with a lot of help from David’s creativity and ingenuity.

It's rare that coworkers share the same sensibility and sense of humor, but luckily David and I are in sync (as opposed to N’SYNC) when it comes to what makes us laugh and what we know will make our viewers laugh.  I’ve been writing comedy for a really long time, mostly in the form of 250+ chapter books for kids including the Katie Kazoo Switcheroo series, the George Brown Class Clown series, the Ms. Frogbottom’s Field Trips books and the Princess Pulverizer 8 book collection.  David has worked with some really funny TV folks, written comic books, and worked on big shows for Nickelodeon and MTV.  So Funny should be our middle names.  And it would have been if our parents had been as original as we are.

For me, the best part of working on Monsters Aren’t Real??? is that David and I aren’t working with any big studios or publishing conglomerates that are owned by business people who know nothing about comedy, cartoons or kids.  We're doing this one on our own. Our way.  Which is why we set up one of the craziest Kickstarter campaigns for cartoons (say that three times fast!) ever.  Participating in a kickstarter not only allows folks to become backers of the show, but to also join the independent producing revolution!
